BIPV Enabler
Building-integrated photovoltaic modelling software for the construction industry.
BIPV Enabler is a platform that brings product, regulatory, technical, economic, and construction data together to produce building-integrated photovoltaic designs. At its centre is a BIPV product database with standardised guidelines and interfaces, so that decisions can be made during the building design phase rather than after it. Different stakeholders get interfaces suited to them, and it works both as a commercial tool and as a professional service for PV manufacturers and the building professionals handling BIPV design, construction, and facility management.
I built it at RMIT University. I designed the software architecture and wrote the initial implementation as a Research Fellow, then led the software development team and stayed hands-on through the design, development, and AWS deployment. It runs on Python, Flask, and FreeCAD Python workbenches, deployed with AWS Elastic Beanstalk, API Gateway, Cognito, Lambda, and CloudFormation.
The official RMIT page has further details.
